Lightning Roulette and its imitators add random multipliers to straight-up numbers on each spin, ranging from 50x up to 500x. The presentation is excellent and the maths is honest, as long as you understand where the multipliers are funded from.
How the trade works
On a standard single-zero wheel a straight-up number pays 35:1. On a Lightning-style table it pays 29:1 unless it is struck by lightning, in which case it pays the multiplier instead. That reduction across all straight-up wins is what pays for the occasional 500x. The result is a higher house edge on straight-up bets than a standard wheel, in exchange for a much longer tail.
| Bet | Standard roulette | Lightning-style table |
|---|---|---|
| Straight-up number | Pays 35:1, edge 2.70% | Pays 29:1 or a multiplier up to 500x, higher edge |
| Even money bets | Pays 1:1, edge 2.70% | Unchanged, and not eligible for multipliers |
| Splits and corners | Standard payouts | Usually unchanged |
Who it suits
Players who bet individual numbers and want a lottery-shaped outcome distribution. If you are grinding even-money bets for a long session, a standard European table is cheaper and gives you exactly the same game.

Frequently asked questions
Is Lightning Roulette worth playing?
If you bet straight-up numbers and want a long-tail outcome, yes. If you play even-money bets, no: multipliers do not apply to them and a standard European wheel is cheaper.
