Payments are where casino play in India succeeds or fails. The games are the same worldwide. What is different here is the payment layer: UPI dominates retail, banks screen gambling merchant categories aggressively, and offshore operators route rupees through aggregators, wallets and stablecoins to get around a blockage they did not create.
Every rail, side by side
| Method | Deposit | Withdrawal | Speed in | Speed out | Reality check |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| UPI | Yes, via aggregator cashier | Rare at offshore sites | Seconds | n/a to 2 days | The default rail in India, and the one banks screen hardest for gambling merchants |
| Paytm | Wallet and UPI handle | Rare | Seconds | n/a | Familiar interface, same merchant screening underneath |
| PhonePe | UPI handle | Rare | Seconds | n/a | Largest UPI app by volume, identical decline behaviour |
| Google Pay | UPI handle | No | Seconds | n/a | Google policy adds a layer on top of the bank screening |
| Net banking | Sometimes | Sometimes | Minutes | 1 to 2 days | Works when the aggregator supports your bank; slower but sturdy |
| IMPS / NEFT / RTGS | Via aggregator | Yes | Minutes to hours | 1 to 2 days | The classic bank rail, best for larger amounts |
| RuPay / debit card | Patchy | No | Minutes | n/a | Card networks decline gambling merchant codes frequently |
| Voucher and wallet layers | Yes | Sometimes | Minutes | 1 day | A buffer between your bank and the casino, at a small cost |
| Crypto stablecoin | Yes | Yes | Minutes | Minutes | The only genuinely fast exit, and the one with a tax paper trail of its own |
The three routes that actually carry money
1. The aggregator cashier. You choose a rupee deposit, the casino hands you off to a payment provider, and you pay in INR through a UPI intent, a QR code or a bank page. The provider settles with the operator. This is the smoothest route and it is what our five ranked brands use.
2. The wallet or voucher layer. You load a wallet or buy a voucher, then fund the casino from it. This puts a step between your bank statement and the casino, at the cost of a small margin.
3. Crypto stablecoins. You buy USDT on an Indian exchange, send it to the casino, and withdraw the same way. It is the fastest route in both directions, it ignores banking hours, and every leg is recorded on-chain and on the exchange, which matters at tax time.
Costs you should budget for
- Conversion margin. Rupees are converted to the wallet currency on the way in, and back on the way out. Typically a small percentage each way. Fewer, larger transactions cost less.
- Provider fees. Usually absorbed by the operator on deposits, sometimes charged on withdrawals below a threshold.
- Network fees on crypto. Small, but choose the cheaper network when the casino offers a choice.
- Tax. 30% on net winnings under section 194BA. Not a payment fee, but it is money that leaves. See the TDS guide.
If a payment fails
Most failures are bank-side merchant screening rather than a broken casino. The diagnosis is in why casino deposits fail, which walks through the decline codes and what each one means.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best payment method for online casinos in India?
For deposits, the local rupee cashier run by a payment aggregator has the highest success rate. For withdrawals, a UPI payout back to your own VPA is the fastest rupee route, with bank transfer above the UPI cap and crypto when you want to skip banking hours entirely.
Why do casinos not accept UPI directly?
Because banks and NPCI participants screen merchant category codes, and gambling merchants are commonly blocked. Aggregators route the payment differently, which is why a cashier works when a direct transfer does not.
