UPI limits and charges

Your ceiling is set by NPCI rules and your bank together. Here is what applies, what is free, and where the cost you noticed actually came from.

UPI limits are set by NPCI rules and your bank’s own policy together, which is why two people with the same app get different ceilings. For casino deposits the practical limits are lower than the headline ones, because banks apply tighter rules to categories they consider risky.

The limits that apply to a normal retail user

Limit typeTypical figureNotes
Per transactionSet by your bank, commonly up to ₹1 lakhHigher ceilings exist for specific categories such as education and insurance
Per day, all UPICommonly ₹1 lakh across appsShared across every UPI app on the same bank account
Number of transactions per dayUsually capped at a low double-digit countCounts failed attempts at some banks, which is another reason not to retry in a loop
New account cooling periodLower cap for the first 24 hours after adding a payeeCatches people making a first large deposit
UPI LiteSmall-value, PIN-free paymentsNot relevant for casino deposits, but it explains some app behaviour

Charges

For a normal person paying a merchant, UPI is free. There is no charge to the payer on standard person-to-merchant transactions. Where costs appear in casino play, they come from currency conversion at the cashier and from the payment provider’s margin, not from UPI itself. Do not let anyone tell you a UPI fee is why your deposit converted to less than you expected: that is the FX margin, and it should be visible in the cashier before you confirm.

Working within the ceiling

  • Plan deposits so a session fits inside your daily limit rather than splitting awkwardly.
  • Use net banking for amounts above the UPI ceiling.
  • Remember the daily limit is per bank account, not per app: switching from PhonePe to Google Pay on the same account changes nothing.
  • Keep a fallback rail set up so a limit reset does not end your evening.

Frequently asked questions

What is the UPI daily limit?

Commonly one lakh rupees per day across all UPI apps on the same bank account, with per-transaction and transaction-count caps set by your bank. Specific categories carry higher ceilings.

Does UPI charge a fee for casino deposits?

No. Standard UPI payments are free to the payer. What you notice as a cost is the currency conversion margin applied when rupees are converted to the casino wallet currency.
